Die Lehrveranstaltung widmet sich dem Archiv als Untersuchungsgegenstand für künstlerische Forschung und als Ort künstlerischer Intervention und Transformation. Sie stellt eine Fortführung des Kurses aus dem Wintersemester 2022/23 dar und ist als praxisbezogene Vertiefung der bisher erarbeiteten Inhalte zu verstehen. Anhand der vorgestellten Texte und künstlerischen Positionen, sollen die Studierenden eigene künstlerische Methoden entwickeln und realisieren. Im Fokus steht das Archiv als Struktur und theoretische Figur, als „spezifischer Ort der Produktion einer jeweiligen Erzählung, einer spezifischen und womöglich anderen Geschichte“ (Ebeling/Günzel). Welchen Beitrag können künstlerischen Praktiken leisten, um alternative Narrative zu formulieren und die Lücken, Leerstellen und nicht erzählten Geschichten der Archive lesbar zu machen.
Die individuellen Annäherungen der Studierenden an das Thema wird durch wiederholte Besuche in den Archiven der VBKÖ (Vereinigung Bildender Künstlerinnen Österreichs) und der Universität für Angewandte Kunst, Feedbackgespräche und Workshops mit eingeladenen Künstlerinnen begleitet. So soll im Laufe des Semesters eine künstlerische Arbeit realisiert und voraussichtlich im Laufe des Wintersemesters 23/24 präsentiert werden.

The course is dedicated to the archive as an object of investigation for artistic research and as a site of artistic intervention and transformation. It is a continuation of the course from the winter semester 2022/23 and is to be understood as a practice-based deepening of the contents worked out so far. Based on the presented texts and artistic positions, the students are to develop and realize their own artistic methods. The focus is on the archive as a structure and theoretical figure, as a “specific site of production of a respective narrative, a specific and possibly different history” (Ebeling/Günzel). What contribution can artistic practices make to formulate alternative narratives and make the gaps, voids, and untold stories of the archives legible?
The students’ individual approaches to the topic will be accompanied by repeated visits to the archives of the VBKÖ (Association of Women Artists in Austria) and of the University of Applied Arts, feedback discussions and workshops with invited artists. In this way, an artistic work is to be realized in the course of the term and presumably presented during the winter semester 23/24.
