Ernst Logar: Reflecting Oil
Petroculture in TransformationOctober 3 – November 15, 2024
Opening: October 2, 2024, 7 pm
AIL Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab
Georg-Coch-Platz 2
Oil constitutes one of the most important resources of the modern age in our global society.
In light of increasing planetary warming, we are on the brink of a radical transformation into a post-fossil era.
For a successful transition towards a sustainable future, understanding our present day culture in terms of its entanglements with the oil industry is a prerequisite.
The exhibition Reflecting Oil, part of the eponymous artistic research project led by artist Ernst Logar,
intensively explores this substance in connection with various concepts and phenomena of our petromodernity.

1030 Vienna2023 May 24 / 18:00The film program Archival Sites of Speculation brings together artists, who draw on the archive as an object of artistic inquiry rather than merely a site of research and negotiate the constitutive limits of the archive. They developed methodologies of proximity and engagement with archives in order to reflect on colonial continuities. The films make visible what is absent from documentation and refer to the gaps in the transmission of memory, testimony or kept historical material. The artists apply a specific embodied practice as a way of closing the distance between one’s own body to the body of the archive through dance, touch, text, juxtaposition, cuts, collage or reading. With these methods, historical and archival research is combined with a “critical fabulation” to make productive sense of gaps and silences within an archive.

Re-Enacting Tableaus
Artistic research project
PhD project by Micha Payer
Tutor: Paul Petritsch
Oct 01, 2019 – Jun 30, 2022November 2019In my research project I want to examine Tableaus as historical precursors for the structure of knowledge in contemporary scientific visual aids of all disciplines as well as in displays – summarized in images handling complexity in the Age of “Google“ and “Wikipedia“. The Tableau enables a synoptical visual experience; it is a place of simultaneity – a surface, that is organizing and structuring information aesthetically.
