Wien ist eine Stadt, die mit zahlreichen Theatern, Ausstellungshäusern, Programmkinos, Konzert-Venues, bedeutenden Festivals, etablierten Institutionen sowie einer vielfältigen freien Szene stark von Kunst und Kultur geprägt ist. Bei gemeinsamen Spaziergängen kommen wir mit Künstler:innen und Kurator:innen ins Gespräch und reflektieren über Arbeitsbedingungen, Organisationsstrukturen, kulturelle Infrastruktur und Netzwerke in Wien.
Geplant sind Ausstellungsbesuche in der Secession, der Kunsthalle Wien, dem mumok, dem Belvedere 21, der Kunsthalle Exnergasse im WUK sowie in verschiedenen Independent Spaces. Field Trips führen unter anderen zum Kunstplatz Graben (temporäre Skulptur von Claudia Märzendorfer) und ins Stadtentwicklungsgebiet Sonnwendviertel (Hochstrahlbrunnen von Gelitin). Weiters stehen explorative Spaziergänge am Programm, beispielsweise ins Village im Dritten, in dessen Umgebung sich mehrere Kunst-am-Bau-Arbeiten befinden.
Zugleich soll die Stadt auch im Umherschweifen und Driften entdeckt werden – offen und aufmerksam, dem Prinzip des Zufalls folgend. Dies kann sich auf ein einzelnes Grätzel oder eine (Groß-)Siedlung konzentrieren oder durch die Durchquerung mehrerer Bezirke erfolgen.
Vorschläge der Teilnehmer:innen sind ausdrücklich erwünscht und werden nach Möglichkeit berücksichtigt.
Zum Abschluss des Semesters soll gemeinsam ein Skript zu den Field Trips entstehen (digital oder in Printform), das sowohl Fakten als auch persönliche Eindrücke und Kommentare versammelt. Die Teilnehmer:innen sind eingeladen, die Exkursionen selbst zu dokumentieren und zu kommentieren, etwa mittels Fotografien oder Tonaufzeichnungen.
Die LV richtet sich insbesondere an Studierende der Ortsbezogenen Kunst sowie an Studienanfänger:innen.

Vienna is a city deeply shaped by art and culture, with its many theatres, exhibition spaces, independent cinemas, concert venues, major festivals, established institutions, and vibrant independent scene. Through shared walks and conversations, we will engage with artists and curators while reflecting on working conditions, organisational structures, cultural infrastructure, and artistic networks in Vienna.
Planned visits include exhibitions at the Secession, Kunsthalle Wien, mumok, Belvedere 21, Kunsthalle Exnergasse at WUK, as well as various independent spaces. Field trips will lead, among other places, to Kunstplatz Graben (temporary sculpture by Claudia Märzendorfer) and the urban development area Sonnwendviertel (fountain by Gelitin). Exploratory walks are also part of the programme, for example to “Village” in the 3rd district and its surroundings, where several site-specific public art projects can be found.
At the same time, the city will also be explored in a mode of drifting – openly and attentively, guided by chance encounters. This may focus on a single neighbourhood or large housing complex, or involve crossing and exploring several districts.
Suggestions from participants are explicitly encouraged and will be taken into consideration wherever possible.
At the end of the semester, participants will collaboratively produce a script/publication for the field trips (digital or printed), bringing together facts and details alongside personal impressions and reflections. Participants are asked to document and comment on the excursions, for example through photographs or audio recordings.
The course is aimed particularly at students of Site-Specific Art as well as first-year students.
