Trash as Treasure / Material Flows uses waste materials as a starting point for a learning process exploring materials, spatial thinking, and social practices. We focus on analyzing and mapping the movement of materials from production to distribution.

Participants are asked to bring a material of their choice and research the origin of its resources, its methods of production, its environmental impact, and its availability in Austria and globally. This allows participants to trace the entire material cycle, from the extraction of raw materials to recycling.

Based on the materials they bring, participants develop sculptures and installations. Special drawing exercises accompany and support this process. The results will be presented in an exhibition.

The course starts with an excursion to Vienna´s largest „Müll-deponie“ / landfill Rautenweg:
