    Ortsbezogene Kunst verlässt das Studio, um sich mit konkreten Orten und realen Räumen auseinanderzusetzen – mit den „räumlichen Manifestationen“ der materiellen Welt, in der wir uns verorten. So ein Ort kann sowohl eine Idee als auch gebaute Architektur, Natur, Landschaft, Gesellschaft, der öffentliche Raum, der Ausstellungsraum, der digitale Raum, der fiktionale Raum, unser Lebensraum sein.

     

    Site-specific art leaves the studio to confront and explore concrete sites and real spaces – to study the “spatial manifestations” of the material world of which we are also a part. Such a site can be an idea as well as built architecture, nature, landscape, society, the public space, the exhibition space, the digital space, the fictional space, our living space.

    In unserer Klasse geht es darum, einen Ort und seinen Kontext als treibende Kraft, als Arbeitsmaterial, Handlungsraum und Aktionsfeld zu verstehen. Die Studierenden beschäftigen sich mit Ansätzen, die einen Ort zum Ausgangspunkt eines künstlerischen Prozesses nehmen.

    In der Arbeit werden Gegenstände als Impulse für Erinnerungen verstanden. Ihr symbolischer wie anekdotischer Charakter wird analysiert und hervorgehoben. 
    Das Verhältnis von Subjekt und Objekt wird untersucht – der aus einer Interaktion entstehende Dialog lässt die Grenzen und die aktive bzw. passive Rollenverteilung der Subjekt-Objekt Beziehung verschwimmen. 

     

    Items are understood as impulses for memories within the work. The installation explores their symbolic and anecdotal features. The installation explores the subject-object relationship – via the interaction between subject and object in the installations’ setting, dialogs occur, the boarder between active and passive positions are dissolved.

    Die Abteilung für Ortsbezogene Kunst hat seit dem Sommersemester 2016 einen neuen Standort. Ein ehemaliges Molkereigebäude im dritten Bezirk bietet nun Platz für unsere Studio- und Arbeitsräume. Um den transdisziplinären Austausch zu verstärken, teilen wir mit der Abteilung Skulptur und Raum einen Ausstellungsraum, Sozial- Seminar- und Vortragsraum sowie Werkstätten.

     

    Starting with the summer term 2016, the Department of Site-Specific Art is situated at this location. A former dairy factory in Vienna’s 3rd district will accommodate our new studio and workspace. To further the transdisciplinary exchange we will share space for exhibitions, seminars, lectures, wood and metal workshops, and for recreation with the department Sculpture and Space.

    The search for characteristics, secrets, connections and relations of constructed, urban spaces. The collection of qualities, the photography of shapes, the imagination of structures and in turn the investigation of all this.
